I can no longer watch a film without taking notes to write about it for you. I’ve always taken mental notes but I’ve officially upgraded my observational neuroses. I think they call it “journalism”. Next thing you know I’ll be in the cinema with a pen and paper jotting down shorthand in the dark, reporting on the not-so-subtle sponsor of every new film. And you’ll be the first to know.
I can’t believe I’d never seen Burnt before this year. My life is forever changed by almost two hours of Bradley Cooper shouting like Gordon Ramsay, dressing like Anthony Bourdain, and speaking French a little better than Julia Child.
Cooper plays Adam Jones—a classic man-character name, and possible relation of Tom, whose shoes can only be filled by an actor’s portrayal. Adam Jones wears the perfect white tee1 and these perfect jeans. Perfect if you’re Bradley Cooper or Anthony Bourdain (miss you). If costume designer Lyn Paolo did not have Mr Kitchen Confidential2 on the mood board for Adam’s style then I will eat my hat.3
